Arnaudville ~ Funeral services will be held Wednesday, November 13, 2013 at an 11:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial in St. Francis Regis Catholic Church in Arnaudville for Eric Charles LaPorte, age 81, who passed away Sunday, November 10, 2013 at 5:35 a.m. at J. Michael Morrow Nursing Home in Arnaudville.
Interment will be in St. Francis Regis Cemetery in Arnaudville. The Rev. Keenan Brown, pastor of St. Francis Regis Catholic Church, will officiate at the services. Readers will be Emily LaPorte and Brittany Boyke. Giftbearers will be Lori LaPorte and Sandra LaPorte.
Musical selections will be provided by Valerie Andrus.
Mr. LaPorte was a native and lifelong resident of Arnaudville. He was employed with LaGrange Department store when he was younger and was employed with American Commercial Barge Lines for 35 years as chief engineer on U.S. Waterways where he retired. He was a parishioner of St. Francis Regis Catholic Church in Arnaudville.
Survivors include his wife, Jeanette Olivier LaPorte, whom he married February 12, 1955; three sons, Kurt G. LaPorte and his wife, Harriet, Glen C. LaPorte and his wife, Lori, all of Arnaudville, and Byron LaPorte and his wife, Dawn, of Webster, TX; six grandchildren, Daniel LaPorte, Emily LaPorte, Stefan LaPorte, Pierce LaPorte, Brittany Boyke, and Christopher Boyke; six brothers, Lloyd LaPorte and his wife, Arlene, of Tucson, AZ, Marvin LaPorte, Carroll LaPorte, Lee Roy LaPorte, Fred LaPorte and his wife, Sandra, all of Arnaudville, and Pierre LaPorte, Jr. and his wife, Jeanne, of Highland, TX; and one sister-in-law, Norma LaPorte of Texas City, TX.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Pierre LaPorte, Sr. and the former Cecile Frederick, both natives of Arnaudville; two sisters, Rita Mae Kidder and an infant sister, Janice LaPorte; and one brother, Harry P. LaPorte.
A rosary will be prayed at 7:00 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed from 1:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Tuesday and will continue from 8:00 a.m. until service time on Wednesday.
Pallbearers will be Kurt LaPorte, Glen LaPorte, Byron LaPorte, Stefan LaPorte, Daniel LaPorte, Pierce LaPorte. Honorary pallbearers will be Chris Boyke, Pierre LaPorte, Jr., Marvin LaPorte, Carroll LaPorte, Lee Roy LaPorte, Fred LaPorte, and Harry LaPorte.
